Out-Tuscany – Trattoria da Mimmo in Eraclea (Venice)…traditional fish as in a venetian family…

For the “Out-Tuscany” or “Fuori Toscana” series… In the first Veneto inland we had lunch in a Trattoria: fish is fresh and cooked according to local tradition, it seems to be really in the family, at honest prices.

This Trattoria has always been family-run, is just in the Venetian hinterland between Jesolo and San Dona di Piave. Tents outside for several tables outdoors, inside the lounge with large windows, only one shame that after all the view is not there. Furniture is old fashioned, but tablecloths and cloth napkins, squeaky clean and large wine glasses even if you take the bulk sparkling white (which is really good). Atmosphere too is old-fashioned, with the owner and his family serving in the room and in the kitchen.

We have eaten here several times, always fish, so we tested a little bit all over the menu. Classic dishes of the local tradition, without absurd claims of worldliness, many with fresh fish, others with frozen, but always delicious and well cooked (only one thing could be avoided, surimi disguised as crab  …).

I would absolutely recommend the mixed starter, right in variety and quantity, perhaps adding even sardines in sauce becoause of their tipicity, then the pasta with scallops and pine nuts, and the mixed grill. Prices are all in all very honest, albeit with some exceptions where they try, as in many other places, to earn more, but then again, as a whole is quite cheap: you can consider that we had a sort of flat rate bill: wine (2 liter jugs ), coffee, liqueurs, full appetizer, first course, second mixed grill … 25 Euro per person … I repeat, all good and fresh fish.
